gwyneth paltrow on ‘aspire’

I enjoyed Gwyneth Paltrow on the Aspire podcast more than I expected to. Prior to this interview, my perception of GP had been shaped by the zeitgeist. This conversation, with host Emme Grede, reshaped my understanding of her. I found her to be both refreshing and dare I say, inspiring.

For girls who dream like u and me, our goop girly talked about what it really means to pursue ambition. She’s candid about being misunderstood. She reflects on learning to face discomfort head-on. She’s forthcoming about the mindset required to embrace not being liked. And she brings up the algorithm and how it breaks her heart, too (stars, they’re just like us!).

GP believes that in business, reinvention is a constant. As someone who is currently rebranding her entire life, I agree with her perspective that identity and career are fluid. Looking at my career (and myself) as an evolving story has helped ease this process, and made it fun!

If you want to succeed, understand that ambition requires emotional labor. Learn to separate your self-worth from external approval. Work on resilience by accepting that ambition will often be uncomfortable. Accept that challenges are a non-negotiable part of being a founder, a dreamer, and a doer.

Your most important resource will always be your most authentic self, bb. As GP says, learn to trust your instincts as a compass. You know what’s right for you. Don’t let the big-bad world cloud your clarity. Always rooting for you.

Give this pod a listen and lemme know what resonated with u! This was my first introduction to Emma Grede and to this podcast. Great first impression. Her make-up is ethereal, which finishing powder does she use?

Until next time, dear readers. ily 🤍
