off-campus, boobs, authenticity, and the jobros
Have you watched Off Campus on Amazon Prime yet? It's so cute. As my friend said, Heated Rivalry, but make it straight.
It's giving early aughts comfort show where everyone is hot and likeable. Shout out to the female gaze for executing to perfection.
In related news, have you noticed that boobs are so back? Stacked girls are in Vogue again.
There's something happening in the culture. Last summer, I kept writing about how authenticity is everything. Authenticity becomes even more valuable when people start to feel surrounded by artifice. The deeper we move into the GLP-1 era, the harder it becomes to know what we're looking at.
There is nothing morally wrong about Ozempic or other weight loss drugs. The point here is that we've introduced uncertainty into visual culture. Thinness has expanded beyond discipline, genetics, and luck to include prescriptions. We can't read bodies the way we used to, and that changes what we find compelling.
Society is adapting. Have you noticed that chubby is becoming more culturally desirable? Just when it felt like '90s supermodel thinness had won, a softer profile is emerging as the hot next era.
Also, there's a new podcast with the Jonas Brothers, and I think I might really like it.
I grew up on family house parties, so family gossip has always been a top-tier activity. The podcast is kinda like that. Obvs, these jobros have great chemistry together making it a fun listen so far.
Finally, who do I need to speak to about stickers on fruit? Peaches aren't built for this.
Anyway, those are some things I noticed this week. Hope youβre having the sweetest start to summer. ππ
See ya next time, bb. π
